A Visitor From Australia - Dr Jenny Masters

19 Nov 2015

We are often contacted by practitioners from other settings and researchers from universities wanting to visit Nurture Outdoor Kindergarten. Earlier this year we were delighted to welcome Professor Rory Clark and Professor Sue Baylis from the University of Worcester's Early Years team who were thoroughly impressed with what they saw. They were particularly impressed with our outdoor provision and they agreed with us about the benefits of an emergent curriculum and supporting children with their interests.

A couple of weeks ago we welcomed Dr Jenny Masters, an academic and researcher from the University of Tasmania in Australia. Jenny has recently been researching Nature Kindergartens in Australia and New Zealand and was interested to hear our perspectives on nature and sustainability in Early Years education. It was a really interesting visit, with lots of discussion about the importance of outdoor learning experiences for children, Scandinavian Kindergartens and Forest School. It was particularly interesting hearing Jenny's thoughts on technology in Nature Kindergartens. Jenny took lots of photos of our outdoor environment and we told her about how we engage with a number of social enterprises at Top Barn, in particular Wild Goose Rural Training Centre where we do our farm jobs.

Hannah is Co-owner of Nurture Outdoor Kindergarten and manages the business operations. Hannah’s career began in science where she specialised in paediatrics. Her interest in Early Years Education is borne from a passion for research, with a particular focus on the birth to five age range. One of Hannah’s favourite things about Nurture Outdoor Kindergarten is seeing the extraordinary development of children in such a rich natural environment. She has a passion for progressive and alternative education. Hannah believes the outdoors offers the ideal environment to foster a life-long love of learning in children. In her spare time Hannah enjoys walks in the woods.
