Flexible learning at Nurture Outdoor Kindergarten
Here at Nurture Outdoor Kindergarten, we care passionately about promoting choices for families about their children’s education. Led by a qualified primary school teacher with more than ten years teaching experience from Early Years to Key Stage 1, Nurture Outdoor Kindergarten is able to offer families a flexible approach to learning.
What is flexi-schooling?
Flexi-schooling is an arrangement whereby a child’s full-time education is shared between mainstream school, home and Nurture Outdoor Kindergarten. Our flexi offering enables your child to attend NOK for part of their school week, where we will work closely with you and the school to ensure that your child’s educational and social-emotional needs are being met. We also offer the same to families who currently homeschool full-time.
Flexi-schooling can work particularly well for:
- Families who prefer to homeschool but don’t have the resources to homeschool full-time
- Families who want a more active role in their children’s education, and children who want a say in what they learn
- Children who learn well through self-directed activity and project-based learning
A personalised, child-centred approach
At NOK we see our role as facilitators in children’s learning. We observe and learn about each child’s unique interests, and their strengths and weaknesses. Our focus is on personalised, experiential learning – in involving children in their own future, the future of their community, and the future of society. Our environment challenges every learner, and as a small learning community we are able to respond to individual interests in a way that differs from mainstream school. By spending time with us children are able to retain their natural curiosity, and develop a lifelong desire to learn and question, an appreciation for friendship, a strong personal relationship with the learning community, and the commitment to be active citizens in their community.
We are supporting children to be active citizens in a democracy of tomorrow by enabling them to be valued participants in the Kindergarten community today.
